These fatty acids are found in fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardine and herring. They are also found in the flax seed oil and Primrose oil. Fish is the healthiest among all animal products, owing to its high protein and low fat content. The Omega-3 fatty acids in fish, along with other nutrients, protect blood vessels from plaque, reduce inflammation, and prevent high blood pressure.
The fish oil lowers blood pressure, controls cholesterol, makes the arteries more flexible and helps in keeping blood platelets from clogging together along the artery walls. This keeps the passage open and the blood flowing through freely so that there is less pressure on the arteries.
However, fish with high mercury content such as Tuna which may increase the blood pressure should be avoided.

Hypertensive patients are often found to be deficient in coenzyme Q10 usually called COQ10. It is also known as Ubiquinone meaning the ubiquitous quinine. Coenzyme Q10 has been shown to be beneficial for treating heart disease, atherosclerosis and hypertension and various other ailments. It is essentially a vitamin or a vitamin-like substance, which like vitamins are found in foods and sometimes synthesized in the body. It is fat-soluble and present in all cells of the body where it serves as a coenzyme and also functions as an antioxidant.
